Will I Be Safe?

I am a member of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club.

The club and the patrol on the day will be aware and supportive of our event.

In addition, we will be supported by a number of experienced surf life saver patrol members who will escort us on the famous yellow surf life saving paddle boards as we all swim in a group, closely watched by the patrol member on the beach and in the tower.

However...

This does not remove you from your requirement to self manage and be able to swim with an appropriate level of competence.

For your own comfort, please remember that support does not remove your risk of having a negative experience.

The odds of drowning are extremely low. This however does not mean anyone can come.

How Far Do We Swim?

We will use the North Bondi rip to get out into the deep water. This is used by lots of swim groups in Bondi for this reason.

It's also a great way for you to learn how your local beach works, which is highly valuable.

From there we will be behind the waves within a couple of minutes.

We then swim towards the south and will encounter the white buoy in around 5-10 minutes. Depending on your swim speed.

At the white buoy, we will pause for a minute or two and relax, regroup and have a little chat.

From there we swim back into the beach between the safety of the surf life saver flags that we all love and trust.

Where Do We Meet?

We meet in front of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Beach Tent at 10.50am for an 11am sharp briefing.

That's the big yellow and red canopy beach tent that is usually in the middle of North Bondi Beach on a patrolled beach day.

There will be many volunteers on site who will be aware of our event. So if you can't find us, just ask.

Who Is This Suited For?

As mentioned above, this ocean swim event is specifically suited for people who can confidently swim 10 laps in a 50m Olympic pool

This IS NOT a swim training event.

This is for people who know they can swim well enough, but for whatever reason, still find swimming in the deep water a scary thing to do.

We will discuss comfort zones in the briefing

This event is your chance to expand your life in a fun and community based free event.

What Do I Need To Bring?

You will need to turn up with:

Well fitting swimming goggles
A swim cap. Preferably bright coloured to keep you visible to our support crew in the water.
An appropriate swimming costume. Board shorts are borderline. Is this your chance to finally wear budgie smugglers for the first time?
